<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a paper sheet discrimination device and method and a magnetic characteristic detection device for accurately discriminating paper sheet, and for applying a magnetic field which is not restricted by the scale of a bias magnetic field, and for freely selecting a detection sensor according to a purpose. <P>SOLUTION: This paper sheet discrimination device is provided with a ring head 11a for polarizing the magnetic ink of paper money 1 at the predetermined position of the conveyance path of paper sheet 1 as a paper sheet, a magnetic impedance element 14a for detecting a polarized magnetic field, a ring head 11b for depolarizing the polarized paper sheet 1 and a magnetic impedance element 14b for detecting the depolarized magnetic field and a comparison deciding means for comparing the detection signals of the magnetic impedance elements 14a and 14b with a preliminarily stored reference signal, and for deciding that the paper money 1 is authentic when the detection signal is within the allowable extent of the reference signal. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
