<p>The invention is a discharge electrode (20, 22, 24) in an electrostatic precipitator having a power supply (30) connected to at least one collection electrode (12, 14, 16) and a flow of gas across the collection electrode (12, 14, 16). The discharge electrode (20, 22, 24) has a plurality of conductive fibers electrically connected to the power supply (30) and fiber tips exposed to the flow of gas. The fiber tips preferably extend from a composite in which the fibers reinforce a matrix material, but alternatively can be a large number of filaments (72) extending from a composite rod (70).</p> |
