<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a structurally simple and safely usable barrel of a writing instrument, which can reduce the amount of a material consumed, in consideration of environmental issues. <P>SOLUTION: In this barrel of the writing instrument, a refill for the writing instrument is arranged in a barrel body; a discontinuous through-hole is formed on the circumference of the outer surface of the barrel body; and a chamfered fingertip protecting part is provided at least at the edge, on the front face side of the barrel body, of the through-hole.
