The heater has a supply line and a heating conductor, which are operable in an overload mode until a limited temperature (T1) is reached. The limited temperature can be ascertained with a negative temperature coefficient (NTC) resistor that is connected in series in the supply line. The electrical steering wheel heater can be operated intermittently and in the over load mode and sequentially in a normal mode.
