PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method capable of removing sufficiently a coexisting substance contained in a hydrophobic sample and disturbing analysis of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCB) in an immunoassay using an antigen-antibody reaction, by a simple operation, and capable of analyzing the PCB by the immunoassay. SOLUTION: The method includes (1) a pretreatment process for bringing the hydrophobic sample containing the polychlorinated biphenyls into contact with an oleum impregnated carrier impregnated with oleum having 5-15 mass% of free SO<SB>3</SB>concentration into the porous carrier, and (2) an immunoassay process using the antigen-antibody reaction of the polychlorinated biphenyls with an antibody. A diatomaceous earth is preferable as the porous carrier. The hydrophobic sample is added to a column packed with the oleum impregnated carrier to be passed therethrough. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
