The circuit (1) has several dual layer capacitors connected in series for energy storage, a first arrangement (12,14) for switching and/or connecting the energy storage device (2) to a battery of a supply network for the engine, a connection (6) to a control node connected to the network battery. The first arrangement and the battery relay are switched to connect the energy storage device and the stored energy is available to the supply network until a second arrangement (13) interrupts the holding branch of the first arrangement for an intentional switch-off of the energy storage device.
