A word line driver is provided to improve area efficiency and to reduce unnecessary current consumption of a memory device, by minimizing a circuit part using a negative potential. In a word line driver connected to a word line connected to memory cells and controlled by the output of a row decoder, a selection signal driver(31) outputs a selection signal swinging between a power supply voltage and a ground voltage in response to a first word line signal. A main word line driver(33) outputs a main word line signal swinging between the power supply voltage and the ground voltage in response to a second word line signal. A sub word line driver(35) outputs a sub word line signal swinging between the selection signal and a low voltage in response to the main word line signal.
