It is intended to provide a DNA participating in the hydroxylation of a macrolide compound 11107B and a novel method of producing a macrolide compound 11107D. More specifically speaking, a DNA participating in the biological conversion of the macrolide compound 11107B represented by the formula (I) into the 16- hydroxylated macrolide compound 11107D represented by the formula (II) which encodes a protein having a 16-hydroxylase activity or ferredoxin; a method of isolating the same; a protein encoded by the above DNA; a plasmid carrying the DNA; a transformant transformed by the plasmid; and a method of producing a 16-hydroxylated macrolide compound with the use of the transformant.
