A method and a system for monitoring a speed of a lift cage are provided to prevent a safety accident by activating a breaker when the speed of the lift is not lowered under a predetermined speed, or the lift cage is deviated from the predetermined position. A method for monitoring a speed of a lift cage includes the steps of: detecting and estimating movement of a driving pulley to drive a lift cage and a balance weight; monitoring whether the lift cage is deviated from a predetermined position; if the lift cage is deviated from the predetermined position, activating a breaker to stop the lift cage, wherein if the lift cage is deviated at a predetermined speed, the speed of the lift cage is reduced. |
