A method and an apparatus for compensating output power in a mobile station are provided to reflect/calculate transmission loss generated on a transmission path between a power amplifier and an antenna and compensate an amplification rate of the power amplifier, thereby exactly matching the output power of the portable terminal with an output power control value of a radio access network. A transmitter(150) of a mobile station up-converts a baseband communication signal which will be transmitted to the other party into an RF(Radio Frequency) band communication signal, applies the RF communication signal to a power amplifier(140) and at the same time, controls an amplification rate. The second coupler(130) and the second detector(175) partially detect a voltage level of the communication signal of which power is amplified by the power amplifier(140). The first coupler(100) detects the voltage level of the communication signal applied to an antenna via an intermediate path between an antenna switch(110) and a duplexer(120). A band-pass filter(160) intercepts and removes noise components. The first detector(170) detects the voltage level. The transmitter(150) calculates transmission loss by using the voltage levels, which are respectively detected by the first and second detectors(170,175), and compensates the amplification rate of the power amplifier(140).
