A robot cleaner and a cleaning method thereof are provided to map the cleaning space at a two-dimensional area and to divide the cleaned part and the non-cleaned part by measuring the cleaning space using the measuring sensor. A robot cleaner(1) is composed of: a rotary member(5) rotatably installed at a body(3) of the robot cleaner; a measuring sensor(7) mounted at the rotary member to measure the distance between the wall and the body; and a control unit for receiving the value measured by the sensor, setting the cleaning space, and giving the operating order. The measuring sensor is an ultrasonic wave sensor. The sensor is rotated by the rotary member to measure the range of the cleaning space.
