A device and a method for searching an EMS(Elementary Management System) log file are provided to quickly search the EMS log file by generating a header file having a keyword for searching the EMS log file and a log file having the keyword as information, and searching the header file. Each EMS agent(211,221,231,241) collects and transmits log information of network elements(210,220,230,240) by being formed in each network element. An EMS server(100) includes an EMS controller(110) classifying, storing, and managing log data received from the EMS agent, a header file generator(120), a storing part(130) having a log directory for storing the classified log data and the header file, and an SMS(System Management Subsystem) server(17) searching the log data according to a request of a manager. The header file generator generates and updates the header file having log data information of a folder for storing the log data when the EMS controller stores the log data. The header file includes the keyword identifying the log data of the folder storing the log data and the log file information having the keyword.
