PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing apparatus and an image copying method whereby a wasteful copying job by a user can be eliminated when the copy function is in use. SOLUTION: When a recording medium of a copy destination is selected (a) in a copy mode of a digital camera, a copy operation menu 202 for selecting a copy target is displayed (b). The method informs a user about whether or not an image during selection can be copied in a stage before the user actually instructs copy start by displaying number of copyable copy information 103 by each image size overlappingly on the image during selection on the copy operation menu 202. A display part associated with the size of the image during display in the number of copyable copy information 103 is differentiated from the others with highlight display so that the user can easily confirm the image size of the image during selection at present and the number of copyable copies corresponding to the image size. During the display of the copy operation menu 202, a display state / non-display state of the number of copyable copy information 103 is switched in response to a prescribed button operation so as to ensure the visibility of the image during selection.
