PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable printing by effectively utilizing a blank part of a once printed paper without using a scanner or a paper with a special element embedded therein. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus comprises a blank region calculating means which calculates a blank region from image data, an identification symbol forming means which converts information on the blank region to an identification symbol such as a bar code, an identification symbol reading means which reads the identification symbol such as the bar code printed on the printed paper, a blank region extracting means which extracts the blank region of a printing medium from read data, and an image adjusting means. The information showing the blank region can be easily printed when printing to an unused paper is carried out. Moreover, by reading the bar code of the printed paper, the blank region of the printed paper can be made good use of to print images. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
