PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide device and method for detecting and warning an obstacle for detecting a living body and detecting a distance up to an obstacle and relative speed of the obstacle. SOLUTION: This device is provided with a pyroelectric sensor 10 for detecting infrared ray 53 discharged from a measuring object 5 to output an electric signal according to the infrared light amount, a heat ray emissive material detecting part 11 for detecting the measuring object as a heat ray emissive material based on the electric signal outputted from the pyroelectric sensor 10, a signal wave transmitting/receiving part 13 for transmitting a signal wave 51 of any one of an electromagnetic wave, a sound wave or a light wave and receiving a signal wave 52 reflected by the measuring object, a distance detecting part 14 for detecting a distance up to the measuring object based on the signal waves 51 and 52 transmitted/received by the signal wave transmitting/receiving part 13, and a warning generating part for generating a warning when the heat ray emissive material detecting part 11 detects the heat ray emissive material or when the distance detecting part 14 detects the measuring object having a distance within a prescribed range.
