PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coating apparatus of a strip material which is capable of uniformly forming a film excellent in adhesiveness on a steel plate with high speed. SOLUTION: The reverse roll coater type continuous coating apparatus comprises a preliminary coating mechanism 3, the coating mechanism 4 and a baking furnace 5, and is further provided with a peripheral speed detection means 9 to detect the peripheral speed VP of the pick-up roll and a controlling means 7 to calculate the peripheral speed ratio Vp of the pick-up roll based on VP/Vb from a line speed Vb inputted from a host computer and a line speed Vb inputted from the peripheral detection means 9 so that the peripheral speed ratio Vp of the pick-up roll satisfies 0.2
