The invention relates to a liquid-cooled battery, especially for use as an energy store for an electric drive in a motor vehicle. Said battery comprises a plurality of storage cells (2) and at least one volume (4) through which a cooling medium flows and which is in thermoconducting contact with the storage cells (2). Every storage cell (2) has a safety valve (12) which is opened as of a defined pressure of the medium in the storage cell (2), thereby connecting the volume of the storage cell with the surroundings. The invention is characterized in that the safety valve (12) is disposed inside the storage cell (2) and the storage cell (2) is disposed relative to the volume (4) through which a cooling medium flows in such a manner that, when the safety valve (2) is operated, a connection between the volume (4) through which the cooling medium flows and the interior of the storage cell (2) is established.
