<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electro-optical device which can make defects invisible on the substrate surfaces, by filling them with the adhesive applied to the optical sheet. <P>SOLUTION: The electro-optical device is, for example, a liquid crystal display having a pair of substrates. The liquid crystal display also has a polarizer plate and/or a retardation plate, and an adhesive to adhere one of these substrates. This adhesive has an optical refraction index satisfying 1.5+n1(-5≤n1≤5) and is made from the same material as those used generally for optical sheets.
