PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a highly transparent polyester film slight in cyclic trimer content and suppressed in the decline of adhesiveness and transparency attributable to the cyclic trimer, made from a polyester obtained using a polymerization catalyst free of any germanium compound or antimony compound as the main catalytic component. SOLUTION: The polyester film is made from the polyester with its main recurring unit consisting of ethylene terephthalate produced in the presence of the polycondensation catalyst prepared from at least one of aluminum compounds and at least one of phosphorus compounds. In the polyester film, the content of polyester-insoluble aluminum-based foreign substances is≤3,500 ppm and the content of the cyclic trimer on the film surface is≤0.2 mg/m<SP>2</SP>.
