PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording and reproducing method in which even if skip operation as special reproduction is started during simultaneous recording and reproduction, risk of stopping reproduction for some time at the start point of the skip operation is eliminated, thereby smooth skip operation can be performed. SOLUTION: The recording and reproducing apparatus can simultaneously recording and reproducing data, and is provided with: an accumulating means in which recorded data is accumulated and reproduced data is accumulated; and a managing means managing the accumulating means, the managing means manages and controls the accumulating means so that quantity of recorded data and reproduced data to be accumulated in special reproduction during simultaneous recording and reproduction are varied dynamically.
