PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an engine control device capable of securing large negative pressure without deteriorating fuel economy. SOLUTION: This engine control device is characterized by having an intake control valve 23 arranged in an intake passage 11 on the upstream side of an intake valve 16 and openable-closable synchronously with opening-closing of the intake valve 16, a negative pressure chamber 42 connected to the intake passage 11 on the downstream side of the intake control valve 23, and a control means 100 for closing the intake control valve 23 for a predetermined period of an intake stroke so as to generate negative pressure supplied to the negative pressure chamber 42. The negative pressure generated on its downstream side can be supplied to the negative pressure chamber 42 by closing the intake control valve 23 in the intake stroke. Since intake negative pressure is directly taken out without separately arranging a negative pressure pump, the large negative pressure can be secured without deteriorating the fuel economy.
