PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrolytic solution for an electrochemical display element, from which black dot defects or metal nuclei that are the precursors of the black dot defects, that become fatal defects in practical terms using the display element, are eliminated by making them redissolved, even when produced accompanying repetition of driving of the display element. SOLUTION: The electrolytic solution for the electrochemical display element comprises a metal ion which is at least a kind of metal ion selected from among a group formed of bismuth ions and copper ions, and by containing a compound represented by a general Formula (I) (in the Formula, R1-R4 represent hydrogen atoms, halogen atoms, 1-3C alkyl groups, 1-3C alkoxyl groups, carboxyl groups, cyano groups, hydroxyl groups, nitro groups, sulfo groups, or sulfonic acid alkalis, wherein R1-R4 may be different or identical mutually).
