Car seat located on pair of rails consisting of under rail fixed to car body and lengthwise slideable upper rail fixed to car seat. Upper rail is fixed to under rail using a catch and has a release element swung on a turning axis on the seat which works with the catch to lock and unlock it. It can be swung into a locking direction using a handle. The release element (13) is hit by a compressed spring (26) which clamps the element in an unlocking direction when the handle (15) is not operated. When the handle is operated it brushes over the dead center with its turning axis (14) and thereby moves the release element in a locking direction. The handle is connected to the release element in such a way that it can be swung back from the handle in a locking direction after the dead center has been crossed by the spring and through the working connection locks the catch.
