A mobile terminal having a dual EFS(Embedded File System) and a method for providing a platform using the same are provided to allow a user to use service networks of mutually different platforms of two countries by attempting a connection to a service mobile communication network of the second country including the second EFS if the user fails to be connected with a basic service mobile communication network by a pre-set number of times. The first EFS(30) includes a basic service provider platform of a terminal. The second EFS(40) includes a service provider platform of the second country selected by a user. A switching unit(20) receives power from a battery(50) and connects the first EFS(30) or the second EFS(40) to a mobile communication modem unit(MSM)(10) attempts booting by using the platform of the first or second EFS(30,40). If the attempt of booting using the platform of the first EFS(30) is failed by a pre-set number of times, the MSM(10) outputs a switching control signal for a connection to the second EFS(40) to the switching unit(20).
