PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of improving transfer characteristics. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes: an intermediate transfer body 61 for holding a toner image thereon; a secondary transfer roller 80 disposed so as to be brought into contact with the intermediate transfer body 61 and separated therefrom; and a guide member 83 for guiding a recording medium P to an area between the intermediate transfer body 61 and the secondary transfer roller 80. When the secondary transfer roller 80 is in contact with the intermediate transfer body 61, the recording medium P is introduced to the area between the secondary transfer roller 80 and the intermediate transfer body 61 via the guide member 83 such that the toner image is transferred to the recording medium P. The guide member 83 includes a first guide member 83A for guiding one side of the recording medium P, and a second guide member 83B for guiding the other side of the recording medium P.
