PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compaction method and a compaction device which, when ferromagnetic powder having magnetocrystalline anisotropy is subjected to uniaxial pressing to obtain a compact, achieve sufficient and uniform magnetic field orientation even if the compact has a thin and long shape. SOLUTION: In the compaction method, raw material powder including ferromagnetic powder is subjected to uniaxial pressing in a compaction space of a die. An external magnetic field is applied to a uniaxial pressing direction, further, a ferromagnetic substance (ferromagnetic ring 3) is arranged in the vicinity of the compaction space 4 of the die, and the ferromagnetic ring 3 is moved relatively to the compaction space. As the ferromagnetic substance, a ferromagnetic spiral ring may be used. When the resultant compact is divided into seven equal parts to a uniaxial pressing direction, the difference between the full width at half maximum in the X-ray diffraction peak of the main crystal face in the divided pieces of both edges and the full width at half maximum in the divided pieces near the center is <0.05°.
