626,930. Magnetrons. RAYTHEON MANUFACTURING CO. Nov. 13, 1945, No. 30390. Convention date, March 10. [Class 39 (i)] In a multi-resonator magnetron alternate and intermediate anode segments are strapped together by members 4, 5, 6, 7, Figs. 1, 3, and the dimensions and spacing of each pair of adjacent straps and the dimensions of the resonators are such that the fractional mode separation, i.e. between the principal mode and the closest adjacent mode, is substantially greater than 1/N where N represents the number of anode N/2 + 1 segments. The dimensioning procedure is discussed in detail. The cathode has a central electron emissive section 3, Fig. 1, of relatively low heat capacity, end sections 16, 17, of relatively high heat capacity which extend into bores in magnetic polepieces 13, 14, and a highly heat conducting rod 25 carrying heat radiating fins 33 is attached to the lower end of the section 17. The polepieces 13, 14 are energized by an external magnet. The surfaces of the bores 22, 23 may be blackened so as to absorb heat more readily from the members 16, 17. The fins 33 may be cooled by blowing air against them. Specifications 588,916 and 627,003 are referred to. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 states that the anode segments need not be strapped. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted. |
