The present invention relates to a separator for separating oil and/or oil spray from a gas. Such oil separators or oil spray separators are for example required with combustion engines. The oil separator according to the invention then comprises a flow-through tube through which the gas to be treated flows. At least two worm-like segments (20) are arranged one after the other in the flow-through tube. The thread surfaces of the two worm-like segments (20), with the wall of the flow-through tube (10), form spiral flow paths for the gas. If the gas flows through these spiral-like flow paths (22) then the separation of oil droplets or oil spray is effected. According to the invention then the two worm-like segments (20) are designed in a manner such that the spiral flow paths (22) which are formed by them run in opposite directions. Thus a deflection of the gas is effected at the transition from the one segment to the other segment.
