An apparatus and a method for removing vocal are provided to obtain a karaoke mode using a general stereo file easily, by attenuating a vocal component. An apparatus for removing vocal comprises a first vocal removal unit(310), a widening sound stage unit(320) and a second vocal removal unit(330). The first vocal removal unit(310) calculates the difference between the left and right input signals and removes a vocal component by a feed forward-cross mixing having a predetermined delay. The widening sound stage unit(320) enlarges a sound stage by the feedback-cross adding with the predetermined delay and the left and right input signals outputted from the first vocal removal unit(310). The second vocal removal unit(330) filters the left and right input signals outputted from the widening sound stage unit(320) by a low pass filter(431), mixes the filtered left and right low frequency component with the high frequency component of the difference between the left and right channels and removes the vocal component.
