Upon detection of systole by a detector (21), a master controller (20) adjusts a transmit level control (36) to cause a transducer array (2) to transmit ultrasound waves with a high acoustic output approaching the mechanical index FDA limit with sufficient dwell time between HAO frames to limit the temporal average below the FDA limit.
