<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent an estimated failure occurring along with an abnormality when any abnormality occurs in an automatic clutch 3 before starting of an engine 1, in a control system of a vehicle having the automatic clutch 3 automatically disconnecting/connecting an output shaft 1a of an engine 1 from/with an input shaft 2a of a transmission 2, and an engine control device 4 acquiring various information to control the engine 1. <P>SOLUTION: In a stand-by state enabling start of an engine 1, an engine control device 4 detects presence/absence of an abnormality of an automatic clutch 3. If no abnormality is detected, the engine control device makes the engine 1 in a state where the engine can be started.
