PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a freezer oil which has excellent heat/hydrolysis stability, compatibility with refrigerants, and lubricity. SOLUTION: This freezer oil is characterized by comprising an alicyclic polybasic carboxylate compound obtained from the following compounds (a) and (b). (a) An alicyclic polybasic carboxylic acid which has an alicyclic ring and two or more carboxyl groups whose at least two carboxyl groups are bound to the mutually adjacent carbon atoms in the alicyclic ring. (b) An alcohol containing a compound represented by the general formula (1): R<SP>1</SP>-(OR<SP>2</SP>)<SB>m</SB>-OH (1), wherein R<SP>1</SP>is H or a monovalent hydrocarbon group; R<SP>2</SP>is an alkylene group; (m) is an integer of≥1.
