PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermal printer of a clamshell type, which stably takes up printed paper. SOLUTION: The printer comprises: a first chassis 12; a second chassis 20 provided so as to be opened and closed by turning; and a printer unit 30. The first chassis 12 is provided with a thermosensitive paper roll storage 16, and is constructed to have a first module 31 attached thereto. The second chassis 20 is provided with: a second module 50; a taking-up shaft 75 for taking-up printed paper; and a printed paper roll storage 21, and constructed such that a timing belt 73 is hung between pulleys 60 and 72. The thermosensitive roll storage 16 is closed in the state where the second chassis 20 is closed, the second module 50 is coupled to the first module 31, and the pulley 60 is rotated by a motor 37, Thus, the taking-up shaft 75 is rotated by the motor 37 via the pulley 60, the timing belt 73 and the pulley 72.
