A mobile communication terminal having a battery charging device and a charging control method thereof are provided to comprise a timer program to initialize a hardware timer whose setup time is fixed before expiring a counting action, thereby preventing a charging action from being forcibly terminated by the hardware timer while a battery is not fully charged. Along with charging function initiation through a charging power generation circuit, a mobile communication terminal executes a timer program for initializing a hardware timer and for counting reference charging termination time which is set to be shorter than fixed charging termination time set in the hardware timer(S21-S25). The terminal confirms whether a current value of a battery reaches a preset charging termination current(S27). If not, the terminal confirms whether the reference charging termination time of the timer program expires(S33). If so, the terminal controls the charging power generation circuit to interrupt a charging action(S35,S37). The terminal resumes the charging function by controlling the charging power generation circuit.
