Method and computer program for the determination of geological discontinuities

The method involves calculating gradients (200) of several points (500) of a seismic image of sub-soil, and characterizing, around a principal point (700), two windows (400) of points whose gradients are calculated. The heterogeneity of the distribution of the gradients in the windows is evaluated, where the heterogeneity is characteristic of discontinuities in a stratified medium. The window maximizing the heterogeneity is selected, and the orientation of the window is measured. Discontinuities are determined according to the heterogeneity and the orientation value of the selected window. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a computer program stored on a computer readable medium including computer program codes for implementing a sub-soil seismic image`s geological discontinuity e.g. fault, searching method on a computer (2) a system for searching sub-soil seismic image`s geological discontinuity e.g. fault.
