A device for stepped variable radial location of a knife in a knife head, used in wood and plastics processing, has a ground wave-like profile (15) on both opposing side edges (13) of the knife plate (1) which are positively engaged by a complementary wave profile (21) of opposing elements (2) of a knife plate holder. The wave profile (15) has at least one more wave division in the direction of the knife plate side edges (13) than the wave profile (21) of the opposing elements (2) to allow adjustment in the radial direction.
