PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical-fiber-type collision detection apparatus for vehicles capable of reducing variations in sensor sensitivity in the right and left directions of vehicles. SOLUTION: Since a fiber part 21 of an leakage-type optical fiber sensor located between a bumper reinforcement 7 and a load transmission plate 20 and extended in the direction of the width of a vehicle with the bumper reinforcement 7 has a dynamic property which compensates for variations of transmission characteristics of collision load from a front bumper 1 to the bumper reinforcement 7 in the right and left directions, it is possible to accurately detect the magnitude of collision even if the collision occurs at any section in the right and left directions of the front bumper 1.
