PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus equipped with a cleaning blade the top of which is pressed to a toner image carrier where a toner image is formed, and to provide a temperature control method for the cleaning blade so as to suppress decrease in scraping force of the cleaning blade or chipping and wearing at the blade top even for use in a year-round long period or use in a cold district. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus is equipped with: a temperature measuring means 91 to measure the temperature at the top end 611 of a cleaning blade; and a blade temperature controlling means which receives the measurement result of the temperature measuring means 91 and heats the top end 611 to a temperature higher than the tanδpeak temperature of the blade and lower than the glass transition temperature of the toner when the temperature of the top end 611 of the cleaning blade is equal to or lower than the tanδpeak temperature of the rubber material constituting the top end 611.
