PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hydrogenation method of a carbon-carbon double bond of a diene-based polymer that attains selective bulk hydrogenation of the diene-based polymer at a high hydrogenation degree at a high hydrogenation rate without the need or use of any organic solvent at any stage. SOLUTION: The hydrogenation method of the carbon-carbon double bond in the polymer comprises a step for hydrogenating the polymer comprised of a conjugated diene and optionally other copolymerizable monomers in the presence of a rhodium-based catalyst of the formula: RhQLx in the absence of an organic solvent at a temperature of from about 35°C to about 250°C at hydrogen pressure of from about 0.1 to about 20 MPa. In the formula, Q is hydrogen or an anion; L is a ligand compound of the formula: R<SB>m</SB>B(CH<SB>2</SB>)<SB>n</SB>BR<SB>m</SB>(wherein R is a 1-8C alkyl group or the like; B is phosphorus, arsenic, sulfur or a sulfoxide group; m is 2 or 3; and n is 2, 3 or 4); and x is 2, 3 or 4.
