A transformed microorganism produced by introducing a PHA synthetase gene and a 3-ketoacyl-ACP reductase gene into at least one host microorganism selected from the group consisting of microorganisms of the genera Lalstonia, Aeromonas, Alcaligenes and Pseudomonas, and a process for producing a copolymeric polyester comprising steps of growing the transformed microorganism in the presence of a carbon source to produce a copolymeric polyester, and isolating/purifying the copolymeric polyester from the microorganism. The microorganism strain is capable of accumulating at high level an ultra high molecular weight P(3HB-co-3HH) which is excellent in processability into a fibrous material or the like, and the process utilizing the microorganism strain can produce a copolymeric polyester with safety and at low cost by. |
