PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a papermaking machine and a method for operating the same, capable of reducing its running cost by calculating a proper steam-feeding amount and regulating the steam-feeding amount based on the result of the calculation. SOLUTION: This papermaking machine equipped with a steam-feeding device and a suction device installed as opposing to the steam-feeding device mediated with wet paper is provided by operating the machine, while regulating the steam-feeding device and suction device so that the steam-feeding amount supplied from the steam-feeding device becomes the sum of the amount of condensed steam on the surface of the wet paper (in the case of presenting a conveying member, it contains the amount of the condensation within the conveying member) and the amount of sucked steam sucked in the wet paper, to reduce ineffective steam for reducing the running cost.
