<p>Washing machine has an upright perforated drum mounted on a vertical axle which can be displaced from the axis of a vertical drive spindle by a horizontal distance (d) considerably smaller than the drum radius. During the washing process the motion of the drum is such that the axis of the drum describes a circle of radius d around the drive spindle, whilst the drum is locked to prevent rotation about its own axis. Liquid is expelled from the load by moving the drum axis into coincidence with that of the drive spindle, where by the drum can be rotated about its axis.</p> |
