PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a data file management device, a data file management method and a program capable of improving retrieval performance of the data file. SOLUTION: A control portion 10 of a digital camera 1 specifies a kind of a stored file on the basis of an extension of the file, and detects a subdirectory storing a file of the same kind as the stored file. When the subdirectory storing the file of the same kind is detected, the stored file is stored in the detected subdirectory, and when it is not detected, a subdirectory is newly created for storing files of the same kind as the stored file. The stored file is stored in the created subdirectory. Thus the retrieval performance of the file can be improved by respectively storing the stored files in the subdirectories corresponding to the kinds of the stored files. COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
