A device for stripping insulation from the ends of wires and crimping connectors thereto comprises fixed and movable closable knives 22, 24 and a pair of levers with wire-gripping jaws 66 adjacent the knives attached to a slide 58 movable towards and away from the knives, the jaws gripping the insulation after it has been cut by the knives so that when the slide is moved away from the knives, the jaws pull the insulation away from the end of the wire. An insulated wire inserted between the knives 22 and 24 operates a micro-switch (not shown) in block 28, opening a valve to piston cylinder 42, thus pulling piston-rod 40 and thus arm 38, downwards, and causing arm 30 to push blade 24 towards blade 22, cutting the insulation circumferentially between the two V-shaped edges. The micro-switch also opens a valve to piston cylinder 86, causing piston-rod 88 to be retracted allowing clockwise movement of arm 76, pivoted on brackets 78, so that cam 72, under the influence of spring 80, engages cam followers 74, forcing them apart and so closing wire-gripping jaws 66 on the wire. Further retraction of piston 88 results in the engagement of yoke 90 with bracket 94, attached to slide 58, causing the latter, and also jaws 66, to move away from the knives, stripping the cut insulation from the wire and positioning the stripped end over an uncrimped connector on the lower crimping die 8. When slide 58 energizes micro-switch 100, ram 4 moves down and a push-rod 102, fixed to it, engages an extension 104, pivoting the whole mechanism, which is mounted on a pivoted bracket 44 for this purpose, so that the stripped wire is placed in the uncrimped connector on the lower die 8 and crimping takes place. To return parts to their starting positions, air is admitted to cylinder 86, causing leftward motion of piston-rod 88, disengaging arm 76 from cam followers 74, and opening jaws 66. In a modification, a piston cylinder replaces spring 80 and cylinder 86 is linked to slide 58 by a pivotally-mounted lever (Figs. 9, 10, not shown).
