887,101. Mounting electrical equipment. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. April 14, 1959 [May 1, 1958], No. 13957/58. Classes 37 and 38 (1). A mounting arrangement for elementary logic units comprises a main panel on which the logic units are mounted with their individual mounting boards lying substantially parallel to the main panel, means being provided on the main panel for making interconnections between units, and external connections. Figs. 1 and 2 show a mounting panel 1 upon which are supported sub-units 2, carrying logic circuits (Fig. 6, not shown). The sub-units are held in position between a spring 10 and the socket connectors 4. As shown in Fig. 4, each socket connector comprises a number of spring contacts 6 clamped between the mounting panel and the member 7 and having terminal portions 6b projecting through holes 12 in the panel. A cover 9 secured over the member 7 has an outwardly inclined portion 9a which together with contacts 6 defines an entry into which a sub-unit 2 may be inserted at an angle to the board 1, and then rotated to clip into the spring 1. Inwardly inclined projections 9b are spaced apart by a distance slightly greater than the length of the terminal edge of the sub-unit 2 to define the lateral position of the sub-unit. Two sockets may be mounted along one edge of the panel and the member 7, which may be moulded from a thermoplastic, are preferably formed with securing lugs 7a, 7b, as shown in Fig: 4, so that two members may be mounted in overlapping relation, the deficient thickness at the extremities being made up by packing-pieces 7c. One cover-plate 9 may extend over the whole length of the two members 7. Connections between sub-units are made by jumper wires 16 (Fig. 5) extended from the terminal portions 6b of the contacts, and secured by wiring strips 13. These strips are formed from insulating material and have formed in their surface which lies against the panel 1, a series of arches defining apertures opposite the holes 12. Terminals for external connections and similar wiring strips may be provided at the front and rear edges. Alternatively the wiring may be printed on to the board, the wiring strips then being dispensed with. The panel may be mounted in a frame provided with a handle 25 for mounting on a rack.
