PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gel electrolyte having high ion conductivity and stability at high temperature with a high compliance to a large current when used as a battery electrolyte, and a secondary battery. SOLUTION: The secondary battery comprises a gel electrolyte which is composed of a polymer matrix obtained by polymerizing boric acid ester having a polymeric functional group as expressed by a formula (1) at the end portion, an electrolyte salt, and a non-aqueous solvent. Herin, Z<SP>1</SP>, Z<SP>2</SP>, Z<SP>3</SP>are polymeric functional group or hydrocarbon group having carbon number 1-10, and out of three groups Z<SP>1</SP>, Z<SP>2</SP>, Z<SP>3</SP>, the hydrocarbon groups with the carbon number 1-10 are included 1.0-2.5 in mol average. AO is oxy-alkylene group having carbon number 2-4, and l, m, n are average repeating number of oxy-alkylene group and are each independently 0-100, and l+m+n is 1-300, and B is boron atom.
