PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reproducing device capable of reproducing an image easy to be read such as a character manuscript comprising color characters from image data at a low cost. SOLUTION: When a chromatic/achromatic manuscript determination portion 103 and a halftone manuscript determination portion 104 determine a manuscript as a chromatic manuscript and a non-halftone manuscript from image data inputted from an image input portion 100 and a control portion 106 inputs low cost mode designation, an output color determination portion 105a determines a black (K) and one color (X) in CMY as output colors used for reproducing the manuscript image, and indicates an image processing portion 101a and an image output unit 102a which constitute an image reproducing means to perform manuscript image reproduction using these output colors. The image reproducing means outputs each pixel of the input image data to reproduce the manuscript image, using a coloring material of the black (K) or the color (X) according to the color.
