PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ion generating device lowering withstand voltage of respective elements provided to a driving device of the ion generating discharge device, capable of efficiently generating ion by reducing generation quantity of a by-product like ozone. SOLUTION: A positive voltage impression device 5 impresses positive polarity voltage V1 based on a ground potential Vss as a reference on an electrode 2, and a negative voltage impression device 6 impresses negative polarity voltage V2 based on the ground potential Vss on an electrode 3 while the positive polarity voltage is being impressed on the electrode 2. Since the voltage impressed on respective element of the positive voltage impression device 5 and the negative voltage impression device 6 are lower than before even in the state discharge is generated between the electrodes 2, 3, the elements having withstand voltage lower than before can be used. Further, disappearance of ion on a surface of a dielectric 1 can be prevented. Consequently, since the ion is efficiently generated with a few number of discharge, generation quantity of a by-product like ozone is further restrained than before. COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
