<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a water-based ink composition having excellent jetting stability, uniformly printed on a recording medium and having excellent printing quality, especially color developing properties and fixing properties of a pigment on plain paper. <P>SOLUTION: The water-based ink composition comprises at least a color component selected from a dye or the pigment, a monovalent or a divalent branched alcohol having a 5-10C chain length, an acetylene glycol surfactant. a humectant, a resin emulsion and water.
