The footrest has a supporting plate (1), and a pivot (2) arranged along the plate. A rotation axis (3) of the plate is arranged perpendicular to a longitudinal axis of a motor vehicle, where the plate is rotatably or pivotably supported about the axis (3). A spring force acting on the plate is directed against a foot of an operating person of the vehicle. An electric motor (4) brings the plate in a defined position about the axis (3).
